Manchester United have revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the iconic number seven shirt during his second spell at the club.
United announced the signing of Ronaldo on a two-year contract on deadline day, with the option of an additional year and the 36-year-old rejoins the club he spent six years with 12 years after leaving for Real Madrid – the fee is an initial €15million, rising to €23m.
Ronaldo scored two late goals for Portugal on Wednesday to break the men’s all time international goalscoring record, with his celebration earning him a yellow card that rules him out of their next World Cup qualifier next week. As a result, Ronaldo has been released from international duty by Portugal and will now get to Manchester ahead of his new challenge at United.
With Ronaldo getting the seven shirt, Edinson Cavani will take the number 21, which had previously been worn by Daniel James, as it is the number he wears for the Uruguay international team.
Elsewhere, Mason Greenwood is thought to have scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly this week against Stoke at Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put his side through their paces.
