The Red Devils are looking to revamp their squad after another season where they fell short of major trophies. With Jadon Sancho already in the bag, attention will now be focused on reinforcing others areas of the squad.

As things stand, the focus now appears to be to bring in a centre-back namely Varane. His contract at Real expires at the end of next season and the La Liga giants do not want to risk losing him for free. Cashing in on him this summer will benefit our interests.

Varane is United’s top defensive target

According to the report, United are yet to agree on a fee with Real. The Spaniards want between £42.9m and £51.5m for the France international. Not a small amount for a player who will soon be a free agent.

Castles has gone on to add that Solskjaer also wants to also sign a midfielder and a right-back before the end of the summer. The Norwegian appears to have been handed a sizeable transfer budget to make his move.

“He still wants other reinforcements in midfield and right-back as well.”

Castles also believes that the extravagant summer will ramp up the pressure on Solskajer to deliver silverware. He will have a squad capable of competing and no amount of excuses can spare if we go trophyless again.

“I think there has to be an obligation on Solskjaer’s part to deliver silverware finally and end that trophy drought that he’s presided over during his time at the club.”

One of the right-backs on our radar is Kieran Trippier. However, Atletico Madrid are unwilling to compromise on their asking price for the English international. It remains to be seen if his potential arrival will influence the future of Diogo Dalot.

United have also been linked with a host of midfielders, namely Ruben Neves, Eduardo Camavinga, Declan Rice and Leon Goretzka. Bringing in a player will be essential if the likes of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek are allowed to move on.
