Chelsea have been provided some hope in their attempts to prise Erling Haaland away from Borussia Dortmund this summer, with the striker not ruling out a move.
Haaland, 20, has been heavily linked to take the striker’s role up at the Stamford Bridge club next season, with a lack of goals one of the only weaknesses in the Blues’ Champions League winning side.
The main stumbling block so far in negotiations is Borussia Dortmund’s stance on this potential deal.
Marco Rose’s side aren’t keen on selling two of their best players this summer, with the German side already agreeing a £73million deal to sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.
With this in mind, BVB are making it as hard as possible for Chelsea to attain the Norwegian International this summer and have therefore placed a £150m price tag on the 20-year-old.
Despite this, Abramovich and co have made it their personal missions to do what seems to be like a ‘mission impossible’ transfer in this window.
And Haaland’s latest actions have added fuel to the fire when it comes to the west Londoners’ attempts to complete this big deal
The 20-year-old is currently away playing postseason friendlies with his International side Norway, and the Dortmund striker himself had to face the press.
Christian Falk of Sport Bild asked the striker a direct question about his future and more importantly about the links to Chelsea.
Falk’s tweet read: “We asked Erling Haaland: Are you staying at Borussia Dortmund, Mr. Haaland?.
“He smiled and said nothing”
Keeping tight lipped can only be a good sign for Thomas Tuchel’s side as they look to strengthen the one area of the pitch that could potentially turn them into title challengers in the upcoming 2021/22 Premier League season.
Prior to this update coming out, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol provided the latest on the Haaland situation.
“It’s going to be very difficult,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News. “It’s no secret that Chelsea want to sign a number nine this summer.
“And Erling Haaland is their number one target.”
He went on to add: “As far as Haaland is concerned, Borussia Dortmund are saying he is not for sale, even though he has this release clause in his contract which means he could leave next summer for about £75m.
Now some of the biggest clubs like Chelsea are thinking that they could steal a march on their rivals this summer by offering Dortmund more than that release clause.
“Maybe that will tempt Dortmund to sell him.
“But of course, Borussia Dortmund are saying he’s not for sale, and once more we’ve already raised £73m by agreeing to sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.
“But still Chelsea are interested and still want to sign him.
“We’ve spoken to someone who’s involved in the deal, and he said it’s going to be very difficult.
“He said at the moment, it looks like ‘mission impossible’ but Chelsea are trying.
“It’s unlikely but who knows- it could still happen.”
