Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Monday, June 28.
Potential Haaland blow
Chelsea’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland could have taken a blow with the news that Real Madrid have earmarked the Norwegian as their next ‘galatico’.
Reports from Spain have emerged that Los Blancos believe that they can prise Haaland out of Germany for £112 million. A sum they can raise through selling unwanted players or those such as Raphael Varane who are intent on running down their contracts.
Other players Real would consider selling are Luka Jovic, Gareth Bale and Dani Ceballos in a bid to raise capital and reduce the club’s wage bill, something that has already been done after Sergio Ramos’ exit from the club.
Raphael Varane boost
The news on Haaland may not be good for Chelsea but the same cannot be said when it comes to their chances of signing French defender Varane.
The Real Madrid man has one year left on his contract and has no intention of signing a new deal meaning he either leaves on a free transfer next summer or Los Blancos cash in now.
Carlo Ancelotti has already picked out Wesley Fofana as the man he wants to replace Varane at the heart of the Real defence and this has been seen as a boost to the Blues chances of sealing a deal for the 27-year-=old Varane.
AC Milan plan Chelsea transfer raid
Italian club AC Milan are preparing to return to Stanford Bridge for a further three more players this summer following the completion of the transfer of Fikayo Tomori earlier this month.
The Rossoneri have already agreed a deal with striker Olivier Giroud and want to bring in Hakim Ziyech and Tiemoue Bakayoko according to a report in the Daily Express.
Giroud is currently representing France at Euro 2020 so a formal announcement is not expected until after the tournament while deals for Ziyech and Bakayoko are only in the early stages.
Bakayoko is well known to the Italian side following a loan spell at the San Siro with his agent revealing the midfielder is keen on the move: “Milan are looking for a player with his characteristics and it’s likely that they can make a proposal.
“At the moment, Tiemoue is a Chelsea player, but there’s a possibility to change his shirt and go to an Italian team.
“Milan are a great team and if the opportunity arises, we will do everything possible to bring him to the Rossoneri.
“[Paolo] Maldini and [Frederic] Massara know him, they know what he can give.”
